My Experience with Garth
by Emma Rouleau
My Garth arrived as part of a workshop I helped lead for people brand new to sewing. I’m a toy designer myself (but haven’t made many patterns designed for others to use), and it was wonderful to try out someone else’s style, and see people’s spirits light up as their work went from fabric squares to friendly, finished beings.
While I helped them work, though, my Garth remained undone. His “Garth to finish later” box came with me through a move, my wedding, and two concussions, the latest of which put me in bed unable to do much of anything for more than seven months.
Finishing up my Garth was one of the first creative things I was able to do, and it (and he) fed my soul and helped me remember who I am (plus, he’s stinkin’ adorable, and a wonderful addition to the family).
Thank you so so much, Classy Threads, for the work you do, and for Garth (and my second Garth in progress!). They’ve meant the world, and I’ll be back for more!
