Did you know Classy Threads started with a small group of local clients and we now sell to schools all over Canada and the USA?
That’s right! With the exception of Mississippi, our kits have gone to all the mainland US states and everywhere in Canada except the NWT and Nunavut. They have also been used in classrooms in a Nigerian school as well as in a sewing class for women in Mexico. I’d say that’s a pretty big reach!
From Then to Now

It all started almost 40 years ago in April 1986 when two sisters, both Home Economics teachers, decided to come up with a way to help their fellow teachers by designing sewing kits. Our current owner, Karen, purchased the company 26 years ago when it had a very small customer base and she has carefully shaped us into the Classy Threads you know today.
We’re still a family business with only a handful of employees located in the comfort of Karen’s family’s home. Several years ago, company growth necessitated a move to a larger house and the addition of offsite storage. Karen says the next move for Classy Threads is into its own shop space which can contain it all as she doesn’t want a bigger house!
Our goal remains the same as always:
Working with teachers to teach students to sew by creating high quality projects that students are proud to make and teachers enjoy using.
From Now to Then

Nothing encapsulates what we strive to do more than a picture like this!
The smiles on the faces of these girls from Saskatchewan represents their sense of accomplishment and pride in a job well done. New skills were learned and existing ones honed as they created something beautiful with their own hands.
Learning to sew develops determination and perseverance as well as problem solving skills as difficulties and mistakes are inevitably encountered when making a project. Sewing is a skill that can be used in so many ways from clothing creation to home decoration and more.
Classy Threads is excited to continue working with you to ensure sewing skills are passed on to the next generation!
